FREE UP SPACE AT HOME

A storage unit frees up valuable space in your home and provides a safe, secure storage solution. Self Storage units will allow you to store your summer or winter tires as the seasons change.  There is an increasing demand for seasonal tire storage in our area and condos, apartments and smaller homes often don’t offer enough storage options.

By storing your seasonal tires in a climate-controlled storage unit, like the ones at Elite Self Storage, you can be comforted knowing that your tires will be protected from the sun and UV rays, extending the life of your tires.  A 5x5 unit size may be the perfect size unit for your tire storage needs!

KEEP TIRES CLEAN AND DRY

Before storing your tires, it is important to have them clean of debris and other road hazards.  We suggest using a mild dish soap/water combination and using a tire brush to scrub away any dirt and grime.  Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage your tires and ensure that they are completely dry before storing them in your storage unit.  As well as cleaning your tires, it is good practice to check for cracks, tread level and deterioration of the rubber.

Along with sunlight, oxygen is a leading cause of tire deterioration.  Packing your tires in plastic wrap and wrapping each tire individually will assist in prolonging the life of your tires.  Some inexpensive wrap ideas include:

• Specialty tire storage bags
• Large black contractor bags
• Vacuum sealable plastic
• Tarps

When placing your tires in your storage unit, give them added protection by keeping them off the ground.  Pallets are a good way of keeping your tires elevated.  Rotating your tires every three months will aid in the prevention of deformities and other tire damage.

WHAT NOT TO DO

If your tires are not on rims you should never hang or stack them.  Hanging unmounted tires can warp and damage them.  Tires without rims should be stored on racks off of the floor.

For tires that are on rims, don't stack them with the sidewall up.  Doing this will cause the weight of the rim to push down on the tread of the tire and possibly damage it.

Don't store your tires next to anything with a motor.  Small amounts of ozone could be emitted that are potentially damaging to your tires.

Do not apply any kind of cleaning products or protectants to the tires as these can cause damage to the weathering agents and lead to cracking.

CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE

Climate controlled self storage is ideal for storing tires.  Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can degrade and damage your tires.  Protect your investment by upgrading to a climate-controlled storage unit.

TAKING THEM OUT OF STORAGE

When it is time to take your tires out of your storage unit, you will want to check them over first.  If you are not familiar with dry rot or tire deterioration, take your tires to be looked at by a professional.
