Personal Storage To Help You Organize

Organized Clothing Drawer

Having a cluttered and disorganized home can make everyday tasks much more stressful. By tackling your home, room by room, you can use these tips to help you get your home organized.

Organize One Area At A Time

When deciding to organize your home, it can be a huge job and cause some anxiety.  To keep the stress down, organize one area of your home at a time so it does not become overwhelming.

Also, don’t plan to get your entire house done in one day. To be successful, you need to take your time and really think about each item and if it still serves a purpose.

Kitchen

Organizing your kitchen will probably be the most work out of all of the rooms in your home. Start by tackling one thing at a time.

Empty your cupboards and go through everything you have pulled out. Get rid of excess Tupperware and lids, cracked dishes and coffee mugs and anything that hasn’t been used in over a year.

When putting everything back, organize your cupboards so like items are kept together and the most used items are the easiest to access.

Go through your pantry, fridge and freezer and get rid of anything that has expired or is freezer-burned. When re-organizing, group like products together or group them as meals so you eliminate any searching when cooking.

Pick up some drawer dividers to help keep your drawers organized. If you have 2 drawers available, use one for eating utensils and the other for cooking utensils and kitchen gadgets.

We all have some appliances that are only used once or twice a year, such as turkey roasters. Pack them up and store them away until the next time they are needed. Use the space in your kitchen for more regularly used items.

Bathroom

Take everything out of your cabinets and cupboards. Go through all of your items and get rid of any expired makeup, medicines, etc. If you come across anything that you can’t remember the last time it was used, throw it away. Put everything back by grouping like items together.

Closets

Take everything out of your closet and donate anything that no longer fits or you no longer wear. When hanging everything back up, try to group clothing together by type; such as long sleeve shirts, t-shirts, tank tops, etc.  A self storage unit is a great storage solution for seasonal clothing.

In your linen closet, pull everything out and get rid of any stained or damaged towels and sheets. You really only need 2 sets of sheets for each bed in your household. Any towels that are not too far gone, can be used as cleaning rags.

Use Plastic Totes

Plastic totes are a great investment. They keep all of your belongings, organized, clean and protected. You can either pick up coloured totes and use a different colour for different things, or you can pick up clear totes. These make it much easier to see inside and find what you are looking for faster.

Regardless of which kind you pick up, always make sure to label them to make it even easier to find things.

Use Hooks

Pick up some utility hooks for the walls in your storage rooms and garage. Many items, such as mops, vacuums, brooms, shovels, etc., can be hung from the walls. This keeps them nice and organized and frees up a lot of floor space.

Get A Filing Cabinet

Clutter from papers, like bills, tax forms and manuals can build up fast. By getting a filing cabinet, you can organize all of these and have them away, out of view. Every year, go through all of your files and get rid of anything that is no longer needed. You can then, also, store away important documents in a file box and make room for the next years papers.

Rent A Self Storage Unit

A self storage unit is a great way to help you get and stay organized. After you’ve gone through your home and organized, you may have boxes of items you don’t have storage space for.  For these items, consider renting a self storage unit instead of cluttering your basement and garage.
