In today's current environment, when you decide to get out of the city to relax, you may find that it's not as easy as it used to be to find a place to park that provides electricity for your RV. Before leaving on a trip, check your battery fluid and charge levels. For an extended trip, make sure your RV battery is fully charged and not bleeding charge through faulty connections. Check your travel plan to locate stations where you have the ability to recharge your battery if needed.
When it's not in use and you are parking your RV for an extended period of time, remove the battery from your RV.
Once removed, clean your battery terminals using a solution of baking soda and water to neutralize any corrosion on the battery terminals. Rinse the area with clean clear water and dry with a clean cloth.
If the plates of the battery are exposed, add distilled water to cover and then charge the battery fully.
Check the water levels and fill to the recommended level. Distilled water is the best to use as regular tap water can cause calcium sulfation. NOTE: Batteries should have water added only after charging unless the plates are exposed prior to charging.
Store the battery in a warm, indoor location, preferably at room temperature. Never place the battery directly on the concrete floor, use cardboard, wood or a mat to rest the battery on to prevent cold or moisture leeching up from the concrete.
